A Seven-foot Cube of Light and Wonder

How do you draw crowds to the mall on Black Friday, when online shopping is so convenient? Bramalea City Centre's Black Friday Mystery Box provided the answer by delivering spectacle and surprise, attracting shoppers for five consecutive years.

The see-through Mystery Box featured a gigantic floating gift card illusion, powered by a four webcams and a real-time 3D game engine. Shoppers received postcards with unique codes, which they entered into an iPad to see if they’d win. If a code was lucky, the box dramatically opened, releasing fog as a brand ambassador pulled out a novelty-sized gift card.

Over 1,400 consumers per year tried their luck withe BCC Black Friday Mystery Box.
