Nifty Fish

Interactive Art Installation

Nifty Fish is an interactive art installation that lets users design their own fish with a smartphone and flick it into a virtual tank.

Originally conceived for the City of Mississauga, the project was repurposed as a self-promotional experience and debuted at DX3 in Toronto.

Built entirely on web technology, Nifty Fish runs in any browser and scales to display on everything from PC monitors and projectors to "jumbotron" screens.

This fish gets around (the world)!

Since its debut, Nifty Fish has been delighting audiences of all ages, and even made its way back to Mississauga’s Celebration Square.

With 6 body parts and 12 customizable options for each, the installation offers over 10,000 possible fish combinations, ensuring every user can create a unique design.

Behind the Scenes

To ensure creative variety, I developed a printable template that allowed everyone at the agency — from project managers to developers — to contribute their own fish artwork.

These illustrations were later transformed into scalabe vector graphics, providing a diverse array of fish components that let everyone express their inner fish.
